Have you ever thought of getting your GED and then let something hold you back?  Well, you are not alone.  Many people have had this goal and then some obstacle gets in the way.  These barriers may include transportation, costs, motivation, test anxiety, or learning issues.  The instructors at JCTC Trimble County Adult Education want to help you reach your goals.

The barriers of test anxiety and learning issues may be easily remedied.  Many folks are not aware that there are methods to help students with the learning process and testing issues.  When a student comes to JCTC Trimble Adult Education, he or she is evaluated to determine a learning style. The goal of the instructor is to find out how a student best learns.  After completing a short Learning Style Inventory, a student will discover if they learn best by seeing the material (visual), by hearing the material (auditory), or by doing hands on work (tactual). Most learners are a combination of all three, but they may be dominant in one area. Once a learning style is established, instructors can provide focused teaching techniques or adaptations to help the learner reach goals.

The instructors at JCTC Trimble County Adult Education are trained to help a student utilize his or her learning style information.  For example, a student who has been identified as an auditory learner may do better on homework or test if he/she is able to read it aloud. Normally this would disturb other students around him/her.  He or she could use a device called a “whisper phone.”  It is basically a section of PVC pipe and when you whisper into it only the reader can hear what they are saying.  Yes, you too can buy your own at Lowe’s and you will be amazed.  There are numerous other test taking devices that can help a tester.  You can find out more and if you qualify for this kind of help at your JCTC Trimble Adult Education Center. Come to the Center to find out more.
