Franklin C. Mertz, 69, New Castle, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Norton Suburban Hospital. He was the son of the late Fred & Maudie (Frazier) Mertz.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Mertz, Bedford; three daughters, Tammy Downey, Carrollton, Melissa Mertz and Amanda Mertz, both of Bedford; step-daughters, Kathy Childs and Patty Moore, both of Milton; one step-son, Robert McIntyre, Sanders; a sister, Sue Rabourn, Campbellsburg; two brothers, Bill Mertz, Carrollton, Jimmy Mertz, LaGrange; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
