The Trimble County fourth-grade boys youth league team took the championship title in tournament play recently at Southwestern Elementary in Hanover, Ind.

The boys beat Pope John, 31-12, in the opening game; Henry County in the semi-finals, 27-13; and St. Mary’s in the championship game, 30-22.

In that final game, the young Raiders were out to avenge a loss to St. Marys from the first game of the season. St. Mary’s came out with some sharp shooting and jumped out to an early 12-4 lead.

Trimble then switched up its defense, and the team stepped up to clamp down their shooters, limiting St. Mary’s to two second-half baskets.

The game was tied up 20-20 in the fourth quarter, but the Raiders turned up the heat, made several big shots and hit their free throws when St. Mary’s was forced to foul. Scorers were Logan Clifford with 10 points; Evan Stevens, 6; Dane Lacefield, 5; Grant Sanders, 4; David Duncan, 3; and Grant Weaver, 2.
