Elementary Raider teams complete undefeated season

-A A +A

Trimble’s fifth grade basketball team took on Switzerland County for a shot at going undefeated in the Van Wye league in Madison, IN. The Raiders were very lackadaisical at the game, seemed to have no energy and didn’t play like themselves in the game. They pressed in the first half, which helped account for 21 steals for the game but the Raiders also amassed 11 fouls for the half. Trimble went into halftime down 12-10.

The Raiders committed multiple turnovers in one of their worst games in that aspect of the year but they kept the game close, leading 18-17 going into the fourth quarter.

With 1:30 to go and the Raiders up by four they took a couple of ill-advised shots and the Pacers capitalized scoring on back-to-back plays and tying the score at 29-29. Switzerland attempted a shot at the end of regulation that was blocked by Evan Stevens and the game went into overtime.

In the overtime it was a different story. The Raiders came out strong, scored when they needed to and played good defense. Dane Lacefield drove to the basket and was fouled. He hit 1-2 free throws and Trimble was up 1. After an out of bounds play from the side that had Lacefield throw over the top to Logan Clifford, who laid it in, the Raiders were up by 3. Some solid defense kept the Pacers from scoring and David Duncan took the rebound, drove the length of the floor and laid it in for a 34-29 lead. Switzerland came down and hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to make the final score Raiders 34, Pacers 32, and cap an undefeated season for the Trimble team.

Lacefield led all scorers with 10 points, Clifford and Evan Stevens had six points each, Duncan and Shane Mills had five and Duncan Ralston had two points.

Fourth Grade Raiders

In fourth grade action, Trimble took on Carroll County and cruised to an easy 42-9 victory to close out the regular season undefeated. Reece Webster and Seth Brewer had eight points each, Austin Cissell, Nick Center and Ryan Goody had six each, Beau Turner and Josh Petty had four points each. Both teams will play in the league tournament this weekend in Madison. More information on tournament times and other scores are available at trimblecountysports.com
