Trimble County Sheriff’s Deputy Bo Simpson takes notes while investigating a multiple-vehicle wreck on West Street on Courthouse Square in downtown Bedford on Monday, Nov. 1. Sheriff Tim Coons said William Hoover of Providence, Ky., was driving a sedan that struck two parked cars. Witnesses said Hoover was backing out of a space on Spring Street when the car careened into a parked Chevrolet Avalanche owned by Shelli Ratcliff of Madison, Ind. Hoover’s car then went into drive and sped down toward West Street, striking a Cadillac owned by Betty Ransdell of Bedford, which was parked on West Street. Ransdell’s car was shoved into a Chevy Tahoe owned by Michael Bridges of Poplar Bluff, Mo., that also was parked on West Street. Coons said it is unknown if Hoover was pressing the accelerator rather than the brake or if his vehicle malfunctioned to cause the accident. He was treated for minor cuts. His wife, Marcelle Hoover, was transported to Baptist Northeast for treatment of possible neck and back injuries.
