Jason Dunn, United States Coast Guard, was promoted to LTComdr. on August 1, 2012.
Dunn is a 1988 graduate of Oldham County High School and enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1989 following in his father’s footsteps. During his 24-year career, he has had numerous land and sea duty assignments. Rising through the ranks out of boot camp at Cape May, N.J., he has served overseas in Bahrain and earned the 2nd highest life saving heroism award for saving the life of a crew member of a high speed racing boat. While patrolling boat traffic for the race off Key West, Fla., one racing boat caught a wave and flipped trapping a man inside the cockpit. Two men swam out; the third did not. Seeing the man’s helmet under the water, Dunn dove in, pulled the victim out and began life saving CPR while treading water and saved his life. The victim was picked up by Coast Guard helicopter and transported to a local hospital.
Dunn is currently the Engineering Officer at the Miami Coast Guard Station Maintenance/repair base.
Dunn’s proud parents, Kenneth and Marilyn Dunn, now live in Bedford, Ky.
