Chuck’s Chix: Area softball enthusiasts on a mission

-A A +A

Special to The Trimble Banner

Chuck’s Chix is an area girls’ fastpitch softball organization based in Carrollton.  The girls come from Carroll, Owen, Gallatin, Trimble and Henry counties and represent six school systems.

Organized by Chuck Roberts, the girls are taught softball fundamentals, sportsmanship, the sense of strong team chemistry and the ability to compete at the next level. The girls win together and lose together all without attitude. There is no room for attitude within Chuck’s Chix. Mistakes and errors are viewed as learning experiences, there is never a harsh word spoken. Each girl has her own aspirations whether at the high school or collegiate level. One thing they all possess is the love of the game.

The team is playing weekend tournaments throughout the summer and has won the “Rumble in the Peaks” tournament in Paoli, Ind., and the Rising Sun, Ind., “Lion’s Club Softball Bash.”

Just to test the water, Roberts took his team to Pensacola, Fla., to play in the “Firecracker Classic,” a tournament mostly comprised of A and B league traveling teams. The Chix are considered C league or a recreational team but held their own finishing the tournament with a third place finish. The most notable win there was over Alabama’s A league state champion.

Chuck’s Chix will hopefully be stepping up their level of play next year. College Exposure Tournaments and World Series are within reach and the girls would love nothing more than just the chance to compete. The better the opponent, the better they play.

Members of Chuck’s Chix are Michaela Roberts and Alicia Bates, Carrollton; Tabitha Gosman and Kayla Baker, Bedford; Madison Raybourn, Pendleton; Savannah Mertz, Eminence; Shelby Ray, Pleasureville; Kylee Hearne, Sparta; Allason Toler, Ghent; and Morgan Ellis, Owenton. They are coached by Chuck Roberts, Greg Gosman and Mindy Hearne.
