Late Friday afternoon, a blast at the base of old bridge pier number five near the Indiana shoreline toppled the nearly 100-foot tall structure. This was the only remaining original pier of the Milton-Madison Bridge. Three others in the Ohio River and a fourth on the Kentucky shore have been widened, strengthened and refurbished and are being reused to support the new, wider bridge span that is nearing completion by Walsh Construction.
