Last day of school moved to June 1

The last day of school in the Carroll County School District has been rescheduled to June 1, barring any late-winter snowstorms or other emergencies that could cause cancellation of school during the remainder of the year.

The Carroll County Board of Education voted on the amended district calendar during it's regular meeting last night (Thursday, Feb. 12).

Graduation will be held Sunday, June 7, "at this point," Superintendent Lisa James said following the meeting. She warned that this date could change again, if more school days are missed.

The board also approved three makeup days for students, the first being President's Day this Monday, Feb. 16. Usually a holiday for students, teachers and staff, school will be in session that day to make up one of the nine days lost to bad weather so far this year. The other makeup days will be March 6, a day that had been scheduled for professional development for teachers, and Primary Election Day on May 19.

Originally, the last day of school had been set for May 21, with graduation day being May 24. Instead, May 22, 23 and 26-29, plus June 1 all will be makeup days.

By law, Kentucky schools must complete 177 instructional days during the school year.
