A planning meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Trimble County Public Library for all those interested in helping with preparations for the upcoming Trimble County Alumni Banquet. A good turnout of volunteers would be greatly appreciated.
Longtime Trimble County educator and coach J.T. Peniston will be the special guest of honor during a “Celebrity Roast” as the featured entertainment of the banquet, to be held on Saturday, October 27, at the Bedford Elementary School.
Topics of discussion for Saturday’s meeting include banquet decorations, menu items, additional publicity and ideas to generate greater interest and participation in the alumni association.
Peniston retired following the 2010-11 school term after nearly five decades of service as teacher of Health & Physical Education, Math, Psychology and Social Studies, athletic director and coach of varsity baseball, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball at TCHS. All former students, players and fellow teachers are strongly encouraged to attend the event, which is a fundraiser for the Trimble County Alumni Scholarship Fund.
The Oct. 27 event will be conducted in a similar manner to the renowned “Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts” that were popular on television in the 1970s.
Proceeds from the banquet are used to fund the annual Alumni Scholarship Award to a graduating senior from Trimble County High School. The banquet is open to all graduates of the former Milton High and Trimble County High Schools. Members of the Trimble County Retired Teachers’ Association are also encouraged to attend and share an evening with their former students.
Dave Taylor, Managing Editor of The Trimble Banner, serves as President of the Trimble County Alumni Association.
