Two Shelby County residents were transported by Air Methods, Inc. helicopters to Louisville hospitals following a single vehicle traffic accident near Bedford Thursday.
Troopers from the Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg responded to accident at 7:02 p.m. Their investigation revealed that Donny Jones, a 40 year-old Shelbyville resident, was traveling east on Ky. 316 when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree with the driver’s side of the vehicle. Jones had to be extricated from the vehicle by Bedford Fire and Rescue.
His six-year-old son, Dusty, who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle, was removed from the vehicle by a passer-by.
Donny Jones was transported by Air Methods, Inc. to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of injuries. Dusty Jones was transported by Air Methods, Inc. to Kosair Children’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition. Both parties were wearing seat belts.
Trooper Jennifer Johnson is leading in the investigation of the collision. Trooper Johnson was assisted at the scene by the Trimble County Sheriff’s Department, Trimble County EMS, Bedford Fire and Rescue, and Milton Fire and Rescue.
